The sealed envelope test; a double blind experiment.

The sealed envelope test was applied to both Leonora Piper and W. Stainton Moses. Information was sealed in envelopes that neither had any knowledge of, nor access to, and they would then talk to the spirit world to obtain the messages (This is pretty much a double blind test). They both failed. William James held the letter with which Piper was tested. In Moses case F. W. H. Myers was aware of the contents but it was Richard Hodgson who conducted the expeirment, using Meyers to verify. See STUDIES IN SPIRITISM BY AMY E. TANNER, Ph.D. with AN INTRODUCTION BY G. STANLEY HALL, Ph.D., LL.D. 1910

“I was inclined to think that I should finish the work a believer at least in telepathy. So far is this from being the case that the more I have read and seen of such experiences, the more amazing has it come to seem that two theories like telepathy and spirit communication, which are unsupported by any valid evidence, should have obtained credence to-day ; and the more incomprehensible has it come to be that men should be willing to stake their professional reputations upon the inaccuracies and rubbish that pass for " scientific " facts in these matters.” AMY E. TANNER June 23, 1910

Granville Stanley Hall ( 1844 – 1924 ) was a pioneering American psychologist and educator. His interests focused on childhood development and evolutionary theory. Hall was the first president of the American Psychological Association and the first president of Clark University.
In 1878 he earned his doctorate in psychology under William James at Harvard University, the first psychology doctorate awarded in America.
He was also responsible for inviting Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung to visit and deliver a lecture series in 1909 at the Clark Conference.

Amy Eliza Tanner (1877–1964) was an American psychologist.

(A very careful study of the origin of the messages from a supposed medium, showing them to be submerged memories.)

“Farm animals feel pleasure and sadness, excitement and resentment, depression, fear, and pain. They are far more aware and intelligent than we ever imagined…they are individuals in their own right.Dr. Jane Goodall, her introduction to The Inner World of Farm Animals. ~ Someone, Not Something: Farm Animal Behavior, Emotion, and Intelligence : @  http://www.farmsanctuary.org/learn/someone-not-something/
