A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can see from her nameplate that her name is Patricia Whack.

"Miss Whack, I'd like to get a $30,000 loan to take a holiday."

Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager.

Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral.

The frog says, "Sure. I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and perfectly formed.

Very confused, Patty explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office.

 She finds the manager and says, "There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000, and he wants to use this as collateral."

She holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what in the world is this?"

The bank manager looks back at her and says.

"It's a knickknack, Patty Whack. Give the frog a loan, His old man's a Rolling Stone."

You go to someone for help, what kind, you name it, and you end up with more grief, you’d have been better off not going to him at all. But you were desperate and you were lonely and you were afraid and you just hoped that there might be someone stronger than you, more comforting, could give you the comfort that you needed. So you went there in great hope and expectation and it might have been ten years before you found out that you have more grief because you went there than relief from grief.

A light bulb, the simple ordinary light bulb that we have in our homes, has the potential to radiate the light energy to illuminate a room. If the filament is in order and if the connections are made, and if the electric current is properly plugged in, the light bulb will have light—whether the bulb is big or little, round or square, yellow or white, and no matter how it has been used in the past. It will light, simply because it is, after all, a light bulb.

You can be healed, no matter who you are or what you have been or done, if you make the contact with the “same light that lighteth every man coming into the world"—simply because you are, after all, a child of God. We live in a society where a tremendous amount of information comes at us daily. If we don't know what we are and what we value, we could easily become overwhelmed and exhausted, not knowing which way to turn.

I can't say till I know what's in it

Take nothing for granted, enquire into things for yourself, and try every new doctrine, and professedly old doctrine too, by the Word of God.

But reader, is your own present religion good for anything? Do you know what's in it, and what it is made of? May it not be mischievous and false? Search thyself, and do not take a hope into thy soul till thou knowest what it is made of.

Lectio Divina

In Christianity, Lectio Divina (Latin for divine reading) is a traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God's Word. It does not treat Scripture as texts to be studied, but as the Living Word.

Lectio Divina has 4 separate steps: read, meditate, pray and contemplate. First a passage of Scripture is read, then its meaning is reflected upon. This is followed by prayer and contemplation on the Word of God.

For example, given Jesus' statement in John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you" in Lectio Divina rather than "dissecting peace", the practitioner "enters peace" and shares in the peace of Christ.

It is our duty to create our own heaven and to live in it.
