eponym



Iyanla Vanzant (born 1953) is an African American inspirational speaker, spiritual teacher, author, and television personality. She is known primarily for her books, for her eponymous (An eponym is a person or thing, whether real or fictitious, after which a particular place, tribe, era, discovery, or other item is named or thought to be named; a synonym of "eponym" is namegiver) talk show, and for her frequent appearances on OWN.
Born in Brooklyn NY as Ronda Eva Harris she currently resides in Maryland, is a Yoruba priestess (Yoruba religious beliefs are part of itan: Yoruba traditional folklore, the total complex of songs, histories, stories and other cultural concepts which make up the Yorùbá society)and an ordained New Thought minister.
In the year 2000, she was named one of the "100 most influential Black Americans" by Ebony magazine, which said that "Her books, lectures and television appearances relate to healthy relationships." In 2012, Iyanla was listed at #7 on Watkins' Mind Body Spirit magazine list of the 100 most spirtually influential living people.
