By Thought we rise, by Thought we fall.

He who does not find
The way of Meditation cannot reach
Emancipation and enlightenment.
But thou wilt find the way of Holy Thought;
With mind made calm and steadfast, thou will see
The Permanent amid the mutable,
The Truth eternal in the things that change:
Thou wilt behold the Perfect Law: Cosmos
From Chaos rises when the conquered self
Lies underneath man’s heel: Love be thy strength;
Look on the passion-tortured multitudes,
And have compassion on them; know their pain
By thy long sorrow ended. Thou wilt come
To perfect peace, and so wilt bless the world,
Leading unto the High and Holy Way
The feet of them that seek.—And now I go
To my Abode; go thou unto thy work.

By Thought we rise, by Thought we fall; by Thought
We stand or go; all destiny is wrought
By its swift potency; and he who stands
Master of Thought, and his desires commands,
Willing and weaving thoughts of Love and Might,
Shapes his high end in Truths unerring Light.

“. . . feelings don’t come out of thin air; they don’t arbitrarily descend on us from some random universe.

“They are always preceded by a stressful thought, and when the feelings come, our job (those of us who are open enough to take it on) is to isolate the stressful thought, idea, or assumption and question it thoroughly, find the turnarounds and turnaround examples, and watch how the feelings change.

“Taking on the role of God” means that we step into the identity of the wise one, that one who knows what should happen, and so we try to control things, out of this I-know mind.
We think that we know what is best for the people we love and for ourselves.
We oppose reality, and whenever we do, it hurts.
We believe our thought that death is a bad thing, we are sad or angry when someone we love dies, and we are afraid of dying ourselves.
This is the I-know mind, pure arrogance, the sufferer.
