They're Back!

Originated nearly a century ago by Jesse Shwayder, co-founder and president of the Samsonite Corporation, the treasured keepsakes went out of production about 50 years ago. The new Golden Rule Marble, from Vallmar & Co. LLC of Stow, Ohio, is larger and even more beautiful than the original, with a new heft and luminescence but the same inspirational message it first carried.

The Golden Rule Marble was the brainchild of Jesse Shwayder, founder of Shwayder Trunk Mfg. Co., which went on to become the Samsonite Corporation. They were intended to be a symbol of the Golden Rule, a philosophy on which he founded his company; "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."  Shwayder, also founder of the Samsonite Corporation, gave all company employees and plant visitors a special marble encircled by a bronze band on which was written the Golden Rule.

W.W. "Foots" Clements, of Dr. Pepper, gave these marbles away as a reminder on how to live your life. He kept a bowl of these on his desk and would give them to lucky visitors.
