NWMP/RCMP

The North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) was a police force that became the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The police was established by an act of legislation from the Temporary North-West Council the first territorial government of the Northwest Territories[1]. The Act was approved by the Government of Canada and established on May 23, 1873, by Queen Victoria, on the advice of her Canadian Prime Minister, John A. Macdonald, with the intent of bringing law and order to, and asserting sovereignty over, the Northwest Territories[1].

[1] Located in northern Canada, the territory borders Canada's two other territories, Yukon to the west and Nunavut to the east, and three provinces: British Columbia to the southwest, and Alberta and Saskatchewan to the south.
