George Edwin Burnell (1863-1948) was a religious educator, and an authority on metaphysical subjects and sacred literature. Mimeographed transcripts of his lectures sold well enough to go into multiple editions. He was also the president and director of the California Irrigated Farms Company and San Joaquin Farms Company, and a member of the Jonathan Club. Lecture titles include “Experience,” “Intellect,” “Healing,” “Wealth,” and “Virtue.” ; His wife, Mary, also lectured.

George Edwin Burnell was born in Hartford Connecticut on July 9, 1863. His father was English and his mother was Irish. But with a name like Molly Malloy would you be able to hide that? When Burnell was young the family moved to Minnesota where he later graduated from the University of Minnesota. He engaged in special studies of Hebrew and Sanskrit. Early training in Eastern Philosophies influenced his studies in Christianity and would change his journey forever. Burnell and his wife both were personal students of Emma Curtis Hopkins. Later Burnell also taught as Hopkins school and was part of the group of people who attended some of the now famous lectures of Hopkins which influenced a tight knit group of students who went on to found their own organizations such as Unity, Divine Science, Religious Science, the Home of Truth, and others.
