H. Emilie Cady: "In daily meditation lies the secret of power".

"Every man, every woman must take time daily for quiet and meditation. In daily meditation lies the secret of power. No one can grow in either spiritual knowledge or power without it."
H. Emilie Cady

H. Emilie Cady (1848–1941) was an American homeopathic physician and author of New Thought spiritual writings. Her 1896 book Lessons in Truth, A Course of Twelve Lessons in Practical Christianity is now considered the core text on Unity Church teachings.

Introduced to the teachings of Albert Benjamin Simpson, Cady became deeply involved in spiritual and metaphysical studies. She was inspired and influenced by Biblical teachings and the philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson. She was taught by Emma Hopkins, the New Thought "teacher of teachers".

Cady also associated with several prominent figures in the New Thought movement of the time, including: Emma Curtis Hopkins, Divine Science minister Emmet Fox, Ernest Holmes, founder of Religious Science, and Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, co-founders of Unity Church. Finding The Christ in Ourselves, a pamphlet she had written and sent unsolicited to Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, was published by them in the October 1891 issue of Thought.

Emma Curtis Hopkins wrote in “Scientific Christian Mental Practise”:
The five universal affirmations are:
1. My good is my God. My God is Life, Truth, Love, Substance, Intelligience – omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent.
2. In God I live and move and have my being.
3. I am Spirit, Mind, Wisdom, Strength, Wholeness.
4. The I AM works inevitably through me to will and to do that which ought to be done by me.
5. I am goverened by the law of God and cannot sin or fear sin, sickness or death.
“Scientific Christian Mental Practise” Emma Curtis Hopkins 1888
In “Lessons in TruthCady wrote:
These, then, are the four comprehensive affirmations.
1. God is life, love, intelligence, substance, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence.
2. I am a child or manifestation of God, and every moment His life, love, wisdom, power flow into and through me. I am one with God, and am governed by His law.
3. I am Spirit, perfect, holy, harmonious. Nothing can hurt me or make me sick or afraid, for Spirit is God, and God cannot be sick or hurt or afraid. I manifest my real self through this body now.
4. God works with me to will and to do whatsoever He wishes me to do, and He cannot fail.
“Lessons in Truth” H. Emile Cady 1894 (Unity)

Sometimes the student surpasses the teacher.

Albert Benjamin Simpson (1843 – 1919) (A.B. Simpson) was a Canadian preacher, theologian, author, and founder of The Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), an evangelical Protestant denomination with an emphasis on global evangelism.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox: "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone".

Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850 – 1919) was an American author and poet.

Her best-known work was Poems of Passion.

Mrs. Wilcox was certainly New Thought in her general outlook, and in common with many who later became leaders of the New Thought movement, attended classes by the "teacher of teachers," Emma Curtis Hopkins. She was not strictly New Thought per se, being interested in Theosophy, Spiritualism and the occult. She was strongly drawn to Spiritualism and gave much credit to Oriental--especially Indian thought, as the source of many of her ideas.

Her most enduring work was "Solitude":

Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth,
But has trouble enough of its own.
Sing, and the hills will answer;
Sigh, it is lost on the air.
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
But shrink from voicing care.

Rejoice, and men will seek you;
Grieve, and they turn and go.
They want full measure of all your pleasure,
But they do not need your woe.
Be glad, and your friends are many;
Be sad, and you lose them all.
There are none to decline your nectared wine,
But alone you must drink life's gall.

Feast, and your halls are crowded;
Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give, and it helps you live,
But no man can help you die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure
For a long and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
Through the narrow aisles of pain.

Peace Pilgrim

From 1953 to 1981 a silver haired woman calling herself only "Peace Pilgrim" walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. She vowed to "remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace, walking until given shelter and fasting until given food." In the course of her 28 year pilgrimage she touched the hearts, minds, and lives of thousands of individuals all across North America. Her message was both simple and profound. It continues to inspire people all over the world.
This is the way of peace: Overcome evil with good,
falsehood with truth, and hatred with love.

FOUR PREPARATIONS

1. Assume right attitude toward life
2. Live good beliefs.
3. Find your place in the Life Pattern.
4. Simplify life to bring inner and outer well-being into harmony.

FOUR PURIFICATIONS
1. Purification of the bodily temple.
2. Purification of the thoughts.
3. Purification of the desires.
4. Purification of motives.

FOUR RELINQUISHMENTS
1. Relinquishment of self-will.
2. Relinquishment of the feeling of separateness.
3. Relinquishment of attachments.
4. Relinquishment of all negative feelings.

"Do not believe in me or any other teacher, rather trust in your own inner voice. This is your guide, this is your teacher. Your teacher is within not without. Know yourself, not me!"
~Peace Pilgrim ~Quote of the Month for May 2000

In Core Transformation it mentionsA good beginning in becoming more accepting is always acknowledging what is, rather than trying to be something we're not.

Or as Byron Katie says: “The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is is what we want.”

"If you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it, then what you are undergoes a transformation." : Jiddu Krishnamurti

Perhaps Okness is simply I AMness.
Accepting what is.
Knowing what is.
Being simply what is.

As Richard Rohr writes in The Naked Now:
The enormous breakthrough is that when you honor and accept the divine image within yourself, you cannot help but see it in everybody else, too, and you know that it is just as undeserved and unmerited as it is in you. That is why you stop judging, and that is how you start loving unconditionally and without asking whether someone is worthy or not. The breakthrough occurs at once, although the realization deepens and takes on greater conviction over time.

Gone, but not forgotten.

George Fox (1624 – 1691) was an English Dissenter and a founder of the Religious Society of Friends, commonly known as the Quakers or Friends.
"When I came to eleven years of age," he said, "I knew pureness and righteousness; for, while I was a child, I was taught how to walk to be kept pure. The Lord taught me to be faithful, in all things, and to act faithfully two ways; viz., inwardly to God, and outwardly to man.".

Father John of Kronstadt
(1829 – 1908) was an archpriest of the Russian Orthodox Church.
"Do not fear the conflict, and do not flee from it; where there is no struggle, there is no virtue. Our faith, trust, and love are proved and revealed in adversities, that is, in difficult and grievous outward and inward circumstances, during sickness, sorrow, and privations.".

"Prayer for others is very beneficial to the man himself who prays; it purifies the heart, strengthens faith and hope in God, and arouses love for God and our neighbor.".

Valentine Greatrakes (1628 – 1683), also known as 'Greatorex' or 'The Stroker' [because of his method of stroking his patients with his hands], was an Irish faith healer who toured England in 1666, claiming to cure people by the laying on of hands.
Greatrakes wrote to Lord Conway in May 1666: “The Virtuosi have been daily with me... and God has been pleased to do wonderful things in their sight. Sir Heneage Finch says that I have made the greatest faction and disturbance between clergy and laymen that anyone has these 1000 years.”.

Galen, the famous physician (A.D. 130-200) himself a Greek, but private physician to the Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, commented on the treatments thus: "We have proof that many serious illnesses can be cured solely by the shock administered to the mind."

Sir Heneage Finch, 3rd Earl of Winchilsea (1628–1689) of Eastwell, Kent, was the 3rd Earl of Winchilsea. "His contemporaries called him 'amorous', and in Turkey he was reputed to have 'had many women' and 'built little houses for them'. " On his return from Turkey in June 1668, King Charles II remarked to Finch, "My Lord, you have not only built a town, but peopled it too".

Charles Brodie Patterson: "THERE IS NOTHING OUTSIDE YOU."

"We live in God and know it not." This is not a matter of belief, opinion, or speculation, but the Eternal Truth, and he who is able to comprehend it enters into the life and liberty of a son of God.

New Thought recognizes that all people and all their religions are in different stages of growth and evolution, and that every stage in human development being a necessary stage, should be recognized as such; therefore, New Thought does not make war against any religion. It recognizes the absolute right not only of religious bodies but of individuals to work out their Plan of Life according to the knowledge they are in possession of. There can, therefore, be no spirit of judgment, controversy or condemnation of any other body of people, even though they are in apparent opposition to what New Thought teaches.

New Thought recognizes the right of every man to live his own life in accordance with the highest dictates of his own mind and conscience; that where there is truth, there of necessity, must be freedom.

‘What is New Thought?’ published in 1913
Charles Brodie Patterson
(1854-1936)
Influential Early New Thought Leader

THERE IS NOTHING OUTSIDE YOU.
That is what you must ultimately learn,
for it is in that realization that the Kingdom of Heaven is restored to you.

The Kingdom of Heaven is the dwelling place of the Son of God,
who left not his Father,
and dwells not apart from Him.

Heaven is not a place nor a condition.

It is merely an awareness of perfect Oneness,
and the knowledge that there is nothing else.

Nothing OUTSIDE this Oneness, and NOTHING ELSE within.

Minds ARE joined; bodies are not.
