If we should find ourselves faced by a state of lack and limitation, we can certainly speak to God about it. We know that such a state of affairs is not according to the will of God, consequently we can ask for deliverance and a state of harmonious adjustment. But we should also pray that whatever there may be in us which is the cause or partly the cause of our lack, that this may be removed or changed. MY SEARCH FOR TRUTH ~ Henry Thomas Hamblin
The following authentic account describes a case in which a wiser than his ordinary mind came to the aid of a small boy during a severe ordeal: ”In the year 1837, Vito Mangiamele, who gave his age as ten years and four months, presented himself before Arago [the eminent French savant] in Paris. He was the son of a shepherd of Sicily, who was not able to give his son any instruction. By chance it was discovered that by methods peculiar to himself the boy solved problems that seemed at first view to required extended mathematical knowledge. In the presence of the Academy [of Sciences ], Arago proposed the following questions: ‘What is the cube root of 2,796,416?’ In the space of about half a minute the child responded 156, which is correct. ‘What satisfies the condition that its cube plus 5 times its square is equal to 42 times itself increased by 40?’ Everybody understands that this is a demand for the root of the equation x3+5x2-42x-40=0. In less than a minute Vito responded that 5 satisfies the condition, which is correct. The third equation related to the solution of the equation x5-4x-16779=0. This time the child remained four or five minutes without answering. Finally, he demanded with some hesitation is 3 would not be the solution desired. The secretary having informed him that he was wrong, Vito, a few minutes afterward, gave the number 7 as the true solution. Having finally been requested to extract the tenth root of 282,475,249, Vito found in a short time that the root is 7.” Suggestion instead of medicine; (1900)
The normal yendency of accepting the view of life herein set forth is to withdraw attention from the limitations of sense, and fasten it on universal truth; to make one indifferent to material things, while living from the soul; to divest life of its hardship and acre; to dry up its sources of pain; to clear the mental vision of the spectral figments that haunt a disordered brain; to assure man that so long as he keeps the law and moves with the current of events, all the force in the universe is centered in him and nothing is opposed to him. By this truth is he certified of his right to be, for the fact that he is here proves that spirit has need of such a medium on the earth. By it is the pugnacious, greedy tyrant of selfhood destroyed within him, and he is freed from the dominion of opinion and fear. By it he finds his home in God, is filled with serene trust and the knowledge that eternal law protests him, so that no calamity can befall him. Thus is life made hamonius and whole; all things come into just relations to it, and the longing after something better is dissipated in the fruition of the everlasting NOW.
