"All things I think I see reflect ideas."

"What I see reflects a process in my mind, which starts with my idea of what I want. From there, the mind makes up an image of the thing the mind desires, judges valuable, and therefore seeks to find. These images are then projected outward, looked upon, esteemed as real and guarded as one's own" (1:1-3).

Strengthening the Mind's Immune System

What we’re going to talk about today is “Strengthening the Mind’s Immune System.” And I want to start by reading or quoting a line from the preamble to The Constitution to UNESCO. Many of you know one of the phrases, but I’ll just read you the whole line. UNESCO is United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which was founded in 1945, and the line is actually right at the beginning of the preamble, and it says:

Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.

“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.” Actually, the whole preamble is very, very lovely. The Constitution, I think, is 70 or 80 pages, but the preamble is very nice, emphasizing in its own words—not the words the Course might use—the oneness of all people and the need not to see differences or to make the differences into something significant and use them as a justification for conflict and war. Again, it’s a very, very lovely preamble, and that opening statement is particularly nice.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION

Most students of the Course are familiar with the New Year's resolution that comes at the end of Chapter 15, where Jesus says, "Make this year different by making it all the same," and Helen took those words down at New Year's.
What I'd like to talk with you about this morning as we approach the New Year is a different kind of resolution.

The true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas

Edited transcript of YouTube video presented by
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
An interesting phenomenon of A Course in Miracles is that at different times during Helen's scribing of the Course it was during holiday seasons, particularly at Christmas, Easter, and New Year's. As Helen was scribing and these seasons approached, Jesus was integrating the major theme of whatever it was he was discussing, whether it was in the Workbook or the Text, and integrated this with symbolism of the season. For example, at the beginning of Chapter 20, one finds references to the Easter season, in fact the first section of Chapter 20 is "Holy Week." When it comes to Christmas, there are two places where this occurs. One is in the Workbook, Lesson 303, "The holy Christ is born in me today," and near the end of Chapter 15. I thought I would read one of the particularly lovely brief passages that relate to Christmas. It is Chapter 15, Section XI, paragraph 2:
"The sign of Christmas is a star, a light in darkness. See it not outside yourself, but shining in the Heaven within, and accept it as the sign the time of Christ has come."

GRATITUDE

Transcript of YouTube video by
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
Today our theme will be gratitude since Thanksgiving is coming up in a few days. Gratitude is a major theme of the Course. Most of you are familiar with Lesson 195, "Love is the way I walk in gratitude." And gratitude goes hand in hand with humility which is another theme of the Course, frequently contrasted with arrogance. When we really feel grateful, there's a sense of humility, meaning that someone has helped us or someone has taught us something or someone has given us something that we feel grateful for.

Why A Course in Miracles is not New Age

Kenneth Wapnick has maintained over the years that A Course in Miracles is not a New Age spirituality but rather has its intellectual roots in much earlier intellectual traditions, including the teachings of  Plato, Neoplatonism, and the higher teachings of Gnosticism. The following are excerpts from a letter Kenneth had sent to the Library of Congress sometime in the 1990’s, requesting that they no longer classify the Course and Kenneth’s books under the category New Age. Kenneth’s efforts were successful.

"Happiness is when I am loving!"

The best definition I ever heard of reality Is that it is the one dream we all share. We have only the faintest hints of what it actually is. What we perceive, the way we see things, is largely for our own convenience. Things at a distance are not really smaller, and solid things are not really solid.

The Quiet Center

Teaching is demonstration and what you want to focus on is making yourself as ego-free as possible and then whatever you do will be joyful; whether you’re teaching the Course (ACiM), being a parent, washing dishes, writing an essay, taking a walk. It doesn’t make any difference.

Which set of eyes are you looking through?

"You read in the newspapers quite frequently where car manufacturers send their cars out on to the open highway and after a while they have to recall them. Somewhere along the road the car disclosed a defect and so they all have to be recalled back to the factory for repair, and I wonder how many of you can think what I am thinking?

Shall I have a grand summary question as follows:

THE GOD IN YOU

Your task is not to seek for love, but
merely to seek and find all of the barriers within
yourself that you have built against it.
 ACIM Ch.16.IV.6

“The secret of demonstration is to conceive what is true in Being and to carry out the concept in thought, word, and act. If I can conceive a truth, there must be a way by which I can make that truth apparent.” (Prosperity, Charles Fillmore/37)

Shine with all you have.

In 1889, a frail, sick woman walked into a lecture hall in Kansas City, Missouri, and came away with an idea that saved her life and eventually led her to health and wholeness. This idea was not to let her go until she and her husband, who was soon set afire with it too, had found a faith that reached around the world and blessed the lives of millions of people throughout this century. Myrtle Fillmore ~s How to Let God Help You
Once upon a tiny tick in time

There came a thought into the mind.

There came a supposition.

Nothing more than a miniscule cognition.

A rumor rolled around inside the mind,

Like many a myth, it made us blind.

A fantasy, a wisp of wit,

Led to a most incredible split.

What if it were possible to pull-off a fantastic fraud?

What if I could think a thought

outside of the Mind of God?

Is there a way to distinguish between whether you listen to the voice of the ego or the voice of the Holy Spirit?

“The Course offers some means of distinguishing, one of them being that when you are following the Holy Spirit’s guidance; you are ‘wholly without fear’. But really the question is misplaced. The focus should not be on how you can tell which voice you’re hearing, but on clearing out the obstacles to the voice of the Holy Spirit – namely, guilt and the ego’s sense of specialness. The more you get rid of theses interferences, the more you will hear the true voice of the Holy Spirit. The question pf ‘who’s who?’ will then arise less and less.”~ Ken Wapnick
“The Holy Spirit can reach you in a dream, a phone call, something you overhear that ‘clicks’ for you. Because the Course does refer to a voice, sometimes people get confused and think they have to hear one in a literal sense.’ ~ Gloria Wapnick
