Stand still, be quiet.

“Behold, now, let my heart tell You what it was seeking there, that I should be gratuitously wanton, having no inducement to evil but the evil itself. It was foul, and I loved it. I loved to perish. I loved my own error— not that for which I erred, but the error itself. Base soul, falling from Your firmament to utter destruction— not seeking anything through the shame but the shame itself!" ~ Augustine of Hippo

New Thought is often confused with New Age.

New Age is made up of people who are genuinely seeking for better answers to the problems of life, genuinely seeking the spiritual path. New Thoughters know where the path is, because they are already on it, even if they fall off once in a while. New Thoughters know enough to keep an open mind, but not to “dabble in the occult,” which Charles Fillmore warned against. Without abandoning their Western roots and rationality, they learn from Eastern ideas and practices, especially the ones about centered attention and balance. As Joan Cline-McCary puts it in her book about Divine Science founder Malinda Cramer, Malinda Cramer’s Hidden Harmony [1],

FEAR NOT

What cause hast thou, oh man, to fear?
Just know that Love Divine is near!
Dost thou not know the arms of Love
Are forever ‘round, below, above?
If you will learn this you will see
That God takes care of you and me.
We do not need to strive and plan,
God holds us in his hand.

The Radiant I AM

In 1887, encouraged by her sister, Alethea B(rooks) Small, Nona Brooks attended classes taught by Katherine (Kate) Quiner Bingham (1849 - 1913), a student of Emma Curtis Hopkins. This was the same year that Malinda Cramer started taking classes with Emma Curtis Hopkins. While attending these classes, Brooks "found herself healed of a persistent throat infection" and shortly thereafter Brooks and Small began to heal others.  Bingham had gone to Chicago to seek help for an illness and had been cured by Mabel MacCoy, another student of Emma Curtis Hopkins. The third sister, Fannie B(rooks) James, also studied under Mabel MacCoy. It was in 1898 that Nona Brooks first studied with Cramer.

God the Good is All-in-all.

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
"Receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God."
There is probably no statement that Divine Scientists, as a body, love to make more frequently than the declaration that "all is good." This statement is broad, generous, and all inclusive --- one that stands the close inspection of divine perception and the true analysis of divine reasoning. However, not all attempts to analyze the nature of the declaration are based in unity; neither are they uniformly free from the traditional belief of duality. Is there any way out of these conditions? Is there any power in the vast universe that can heal me?

It was early one morning in the year 1885, during an hour of earnest meditation and prayerful seeking, that I asked the following questions in faith, believing that they would be answered, with a willingness to abide the decision, whatever it might be. “Is there any way out of these conditions? Is there any power in the vast universe that can heal me?” The immediate and all-convincing response was not an audible voice, but was an intuitive response by the life-giving spirit, which penetrated the body through and through, and which illumined and vivified its every atom with newness of life. From the depths of Divine perception and understanding I was caused to know and realize that if I got well it would be by the power of the Infinite Spirit. I arose from my chair, and walking the floor said, “If, if, if I ever get well, then there is one way out of these conditions; then I must seek that way.”
. . .
At this point the question that naturally arises is, were you instantly healed? The answer is this: I at once saw the unreality of the conditions, and was free from the belief that they had any power, or could control for either good or ill. Thus the ax was struck at the root of the tree, and the old conditions passed away as fast as I disowned them by dropping the old habits of thinking and believing.

DESTROY ALL THOUGHTS THAT WE DO NOT WISH TO EXPERIENCE.

WE must resolutely set our faces to the rising consciousness of the Son of Truth; seeing only the One Power we must destroy the adversary and leave the field to God or Good. All that is in any way negative must be wiped off the slate and we must daily come into the higher thought, to be washed clean of the dust and chaos of the objective life. In the silence of the soul's communion with the Great Cause of All Being, into the stillness of the Absolute, into the secret place of the Most High, back of the din and the ceaseless roar of life, we shall find a resting place and a place of real spiritual power. Speak in this inner silence and say, "I am one with the Almighty; I am one with all life, with all power, with all presence. I AM, I AM, I AM." Listen to the silence. From out of the seeming void the voice of peace will answer the waiting soul, "All is well."
Here we make known all our needs and wants, and here we receive first hand from the Infinite all that we shall ever need to make life healthy, happy and harmonious. Few enter here, because of the belief that conditions and circumstances control. Know that there is no law but God's law; that the soul sets its own law in the Infinite and that our slightest wish is honored of the Father Mind.
Daily practice the truth and daily die to all error-thought. Spend more time receiving and realizing the, presence of the Most High and less time worrying. Wonderful power will come to the one who believes and trusts in that Power in which he has come to believe. Know that all good and all God is with you; All Life and All Power; and never again say, "I fear," but always, "I trust, because 'I know in whom I have believed.'" Creative Mind and Success, by Ernest S(hurtleff) Holmes [1919]

Holmes, Cramer, Brooks, Woodward and even ACIM teach that we are not separate from God. That's the lesson. The teacher and method may vary.

And so today we find our glad return to Heaven, which we never really left.
I was mistaken when I thought I lived apart from God, a separate entity that moved in isolation, unattached, and housed within a body. Now I know my life is God's, I have no other home, and I do not exist apart from Him. He has no Thoughts that are not part of me, and I have none but those which are of Him. ACIM

Speak in this inner silence and say, "I am one with the Almighty; I am one with all life, with all power, with all presence. I AM, I AM, I AM."

Want, Love and Works.

The first requirement on the way to a realization of eternal life the permanent good is to want. The student must want to hold the truth because it is truth ; want it sufficiently to put away preconceived opinions and beliefs, and work to attain it ; want the truth sufficiently to be energetic in refusing error's claim, and in casting out intellectual rubbish that does not harmonize with the great central and all saving truth," the basic principle of Divine Science.

Another requirement is
Love -- Love for all truth, because it is truth Love and regard for the Omnipresent, silent and invisible God, the only source of life and power.“Except ye become as little children ye can in no wise enter the kingdom of heaven.” This means that unless we consult " the Father," the One Principle of good underlying all expression, and are governed by him in our thought, we can in no wise express perfect harmony, which is true happiness or heaven; for heaven is a condition and is within each one of us, and to think truth, is to realize that we are the eternal, ever present.

The third requirement is that of
Works. Not until the student wants the truth, and loves it because it is truth, will he perceive it with reference to himself, and to his relation to the Infinite One. He will see with the eye of understanding when he dares to draw the line between the Creator and the created the Manifestor and the manifestation between himself as immortal and the mortal body and his beliefs. When he dares to think of self as invisible, immortal, and divine here and now; that he in being is now what he ever will be, and that his manifestations and mortal body are only visible to him on the sense plane. Man can only be spiritually perceived and understood; and until he reverses his decisions of himself he will not perceive himself and understand his relations to Divine Being. The student must dare to rise up and throw off all beliefs of limitation and in-harmony, instead of waiting for them to desert him: he must banish from mentality the accustomed mode of thought concerning self, and all beliefs that are opposed to the spiritual and clear realization of himself as immortal. Then identify himself with all manifest life, and know of his union with the One eternal Spirit in which all live. Yes, dare to think that by doing the Will of Spirit, and speaking its Word, he can conquer selfish personality beliefs of separateness and limitation.

HARMONY.

Being is God, is self-existing, the Fullness of the All. Being is not subject to power, life or law. It is all power, life and law. It is not subject to, dominated nor environed by anything. The All in All knows nothing beside, nothing to neither dominate nor environ.
Being is Inseparable; this proves man to be self existing, eternal, forever and ever conscious of being in and of the inseparable whole. The inseparableness of the One Whole proves man to be higher than he has, or can ever be placed by human misbelief or mortal misconception. God-idea is with God, and is God, without which nothing is expressed that is expressed. It is the whole of man; it is "Spirit," which is both Soul and Body. It is life, substance, intelligence and power.
Divine Science reveals a higher, broader and deeper nature to man, and to all things, than any previous teaching except that of Christ. It is absolute freedom from the belief of the world's apostacy from God either by a fall a supposition of becoming, a carnal or mortal mind, or a lower self.
There are no elements in matter, so called, of disease, lack or death, and no qualities but what are indestructible, hence eternal. This compels us to see that matter in its essential nature is free from disease, lack or death, and is therefore the direct expression of Spirit. This is the true standard consciousness which knows no corruption ; in which "death is swallowed up of life"; in which the Universe is Spirit substance—One body : "we are all members of the body of Christ."
For sin, sickness, and death to be real or to be any part of man—the unit of Spirit, soul and body—they would have to be qualities of God or elements of indestructible matter; in either case they would be self existing and eternal.
To see man as Spirit, at one with God, it is essential to see the nothingness of all false beliefs, the nothingness of nothing. To do this one should analyze them perfectly, as it were, and as he sees that no place can be found for them in the self-existing nature of Being, nor in the indestructible nature of the elements of matter, know that they must fade away into their native nothingness. There is no in-harmony in expression; in-harmony is human mis-belief, the want of knowledge of the perfect expression that is. Mis-belief is out of harmony with knowledge. Truth makes free. It proves the One Whole to be free. How shall we dispose of matter in Divine Science? By seeing the truth of it. How shall we find freedom for our bodies? By knowing the truth of them. The Truth of anything is the freedom of it. If there were no truth in body, there would be no freedom of body. But instead there are Truth bodies and bodies free, and we have found them, so let it be.

TREATMENT OF ILLUMINATION

DEHYPNOTIZES FROM ERRONEOUS BELIEFS OF SUBJECTION
God is not what he is through choice. Man is not what he is through choice. There is no optional nature to either God or man.
The allness of the all cannot choose between two or more different things what it will he. The I that I AM beside whom there is none, has no choice as to the nature of BEing. It is the nature of wholeness, Infinitude of Knowledge, Power and Presence, to express itself. This is done within itself and unto itself.
Man is what he is just as God is what he is. As God is life, love, truth, substance, intelligence and power, so am I, life, love, truth, substance, intelligence and power. Illumination is One. I am it ; I AM concentration ; I AM self-poised, self-centered and free. I AM in no way subject to the law of cause and effect. I AM it. There is no law over me, none to come against me. For there is none that I am not.
My senses are spiritual ; I am their illumination. I observe all things truthfully. My house is now set in Order according to perfect illumination.
