‘That New Thought of YOURS’

The International New Thought Alliance (INTA) is a global organization dedicated to the spiritual enlightenment and transformation of the individual and the world since 1914. Its purpose is to promote cooperation, provide a basis for common effort of the various units of the New Thought world, promote those activities that cannot of their very nature be accomplished by each group or individual alone, disseminate and publish the good news of New Thought, and build a spiritual fellowship that will secure the respect of all human beings.

Declaration of Principles:
1. We affirm God as Mind, Infinite Being, Spirit, and Ultimate Reality.
2. We affirm that God, the Good, is supreme, universal, and everlasting.
3. We affirm the unity of God and humanity, in that the divine nature dwells within and expresses through each of us, by means of our acceptance of it, as health, supply, wisdom, love, life, truth, power, beauty, and peace.
4. We affirm the power of prayer and the capacity of each person to have mystical experience with God, and to enjoy the grace of God.
5. We affirm the freedom of all persons as to beliefs, and we honor the diversity of humanity by being open and affirming of all persons, affirming the dignity of human beings as founded on the presence of God within them, and, therefore, the principle of democracy.
6. We affirm that we are all spiritual beings, dwelling in a spiritual universe that is governed by spiritual law, and that in alignment with spiritual law, we can heal, prosper, and harmonize.
7. We affirm that our mental states are carried forward into manifestation and become our experience in daily living.
8. We affirm the manifestation of the kingdom of heaven here and now.
9. We affirm expression of the highest spiritual principle in loving one another unconditionally, promoting the highest good for all, teaching and healing one another, ministering to one another, and living together in peace, in accordance with the teachings of Jesus and other enlightened teachers.
10. We affirm our evolving awareness of the nature of reality and our willingness to refine our beliefs accordingly.

“Who are the trailblazers of this movement? Many would agree that Phinaes Parkhurst Quimby was the earliest proponent of what today is called New Thought. Certainly some would say that the writings of Emerson belong here as well. Others would say that New Thought is more accurately traced back to Jesus who in every way gave a new interpretation to old truths, conditions and experiences. Along the way in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s we find Emma Curtis Hopkins, Malinda Cramer and Nona Brooks (Divine Science), Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Science), Warren Evans, Emmet Fox, Joel Goldsmith, Ernest Holmes (Religious Science), Horatio Dresser, Annie Rix Militz (Home of Truth) and Charles and Myrtle Fillmore (Unity).”

And many others! Web Site here

The 1st London New Thought congress was held in 1914. Guest of Honor was Thomas Troward. His chairman was the Archdeacon Wilberforce. It was organized by Annie Rix Militz and Alice Callow “the Mother of the Metaphysical Movement in England.”

Harry Gaze
sailed across the Atlantic with the likes of Harriet Hale Rix, Miss Lelia Simon, Elizabeth Severance, Ida Jane Ayres and others.

The day the INTA was inaugurated the Serbian archduke was shot sparking the chain of events that commenced WWI. Some delegates became stranded in Europe, having decided to visit while others scrambled for safe passage home at their own expense. People always paid their own expenses back in those days.

The August 1914 issue of Mastermind magazine, Annie Rix Militz editor, mentioned the formation of INTA and acknowledged Trowards contributions to the movement.
