Walk the talk

Sundar Singh was raised a devout Sikh, and consecrated from his youth to become a Hindu sadhu. However, his spiritual longings were not fulfilled until emotional and spiritual turmoil drove him to urgently ask the true living God to reveal Himself fully, lest he take his own life in the hope of finding peace in the next. The outcome was strikingly similar to that described in Acts 9:3-5 of the Bible's New Testament. Thereafter, the born again Sadhu became a living witness of the eternal security, peace and comfort he had freely received.

The Sadhu spoke of his own experience -- the Rest and Peace which he enjoys (Bisram, Santi, Aram). Previously he had no lack of everything which the world could give -- wealth, family etc., but he did not enjoy Peace through them. But in Christ he had found peace (Santi) when he realized his relationship with Him. A doctor friend of the Sadhu's related that a man whose arm was broken through an accident came to him and said, "Doctor, my arm is very painful. Take the pain away for me." The doctor told him that first of all the two broken bones must be set and be knit together; then the swelling and the pain would go away of themselves. In the same way people want peace and they want blessings but they don't want to come into right relationship with God, the Giver of blessing. When we come into this right relationship with Him, our restlessness will go and in its stead we shall have wonderful peace.

THE ESSENCE OF THE VEDAS

Live in the spirit of the teachings of the Vedas. Learn to discriminate between the permanent and the impermanent. Behold the Self in all beings, in all objects. Names and forms are illusory. Therefore sublate them. Feel that there is nothing but the Self. Share what you have,-physical, mental, moral or spiritual,-with all. Serve the Self in all. Feel when you serve others, that you are serving your own Self. Love thy neighbour as thyself. Melt all illusory differences. Remove all barriers that separate man from man. Mix with all. Embrace all. Destroy the sex-idea and body-idea by constantly thinking of the Self or the sexless, bodiless Atman. Fix the mind on the Self when you work. This is the essence of the teachings of the Vedas and sages of yore. This is real, eternal life in Atman. Put these things in practice in the daily battle of life. You will shine as a dynamic Yogi or a Jivanmukta. There is no doubt of this.

SIGNS OF A JIVANMUKTA

The Jivanmukta or liberated sage is absolutely free from egoism, doubt, fear, and grief. These are the four important signs that indicate that one has attained perfection.

The Jivanmukta has perfect contentment, unruffled peace of mind, deep abiding joy and bliss, possession of supersensual spiritual knowledge, and ability to clear any kind of doubt of aspirants. Doubts vanish when one remains in his company.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WORLDLY MAN AND A LIBERATED SAGE

The phenomenal universe does not vanish from the vision of the Jivanmukta. The Jivanmukta sees the world as a dream within himself. Just as the mirage appears even after the illusory nature of the water is understood, so also, the world appears for the Jivanmukta even after he has attained Self- realisation, even after he has clearly understood the illusory nature of the world. But, just as the man who has understood the nature of the mirage will not run after the mirage for drinking water, so also, the Jivanmukta will not run after sensual objects like the worldly-minded people, though the world appears to him. That is the difference between a worldly man and a liberated sage.

Transition

It is not wise to cling to those who have gone from the body.

Living with memories isn't fulfilling God's plan for your life. God is life, within you, eagerly seeking unity with other life, yearning to picture forth the health and joy and strength and usefulness that there is in all God life. God is love that must be converted into loving--loving things of the present, those about you, the thoughts and words and works that are adding to the wealth and peace and beauty of the world now.

So bless the past and the old friendships, and turn from them, knowing that they are not the vital issue now. All that another has meant to you has left its imprint upon your soul so that you profit by it daily. And this is all that is of value to you.

New Thought is largely a restatement of old thought, vitalized with new life and meaning from the discoveries of modern psychology and the latest deductions of science. The reader must bear in mind, however, that the Old Thought was suppressed in the Western Hemisphere for nearly two thousand years; for the first time it is sending its illuminating rays to gladden the Western world.
* * * * * *Everything vibrates and oscillates through the broad stretches of infinity. Since motion produces change, everything in Nature is passing through perpetual change.
* * * * * *The adherents of New Thought worship the omnipresent God, the indwelling God, in whom we live, move, and have our being. They do not conceive of God as distant or separated from man, but as a universal Spirit permeating all Nature, finding its highest expression in man.
* * * * * *With most of us the Christ within is asleep in the ship, and only as the winds and waves of life beat therein, threatening us with shipwreck and destruction, do we find courage to wake the Gentle Master to still the raging tempests.
* * * * * *It has been said that he that knows but one Bible, knows none. There is perhaps much truth in the statement. The Vedas and Zend Avesta contain many truths later found in the Hebrew Bible. The experiments referred to, by which thoughts were transformed into visible forms, were conducted by Dr. Charles W. Littlefield. He asserts that he created mental images in solutions of inorganic compounds placed upon photographic slides, and the forms thereby created were successfully photographed and the photographs exhibited for inspection. Dr. Littlefield, in giving the results of his experimentation, says: "In the chemical analysis of all living things we find two classes of compounds, the organic and the inorganic. The former class is represented by albumen, sugar, starch, and oil, while the latter is represented by the compounds of soda, lime, magnesia, iron, potash, and silicon, as made up by the union of these with sulphur, phosphorus, chryoline, fluorine, and oxygen, making twelve mineral compounds, commonly known as tissue salts.
* * * * * *New Thought is not a religion of yesterday, or a philosophy for tomorrow but for today. It is a religion of life and for man's use. Its purpose is to teach man how to live now, and to find the highest and best in life. Our yesterdays are gone, our today is here. "Yesterday is only a dream, tomorrow is only a vision." We cannot control the past, but we can perform the duties of today. Today will be the past tomorrow, we can only make it glorious by acting well today.

The great lesson for man to learn is that such negative thoughts as malice, envy, and hatred do not injure or affect the person against whom they are sent, so much as the one who gives them wings and sends them forth. Giving and receiving is the work of life. What we give, that we receive. This law holds good in all we give; whether we send forth thoughts to another or to our own subjective minds, they come back, either as benedictions or otherwise, according to the character of the thoughts sent forth.

* * * * * *The principles enunciated in New Thought have never been tried in the solution of the social and economic problems that constantly confront society. After all the centuries of theological teaching, the world is still divided by contentions and disagreements. Men are still separated by antagonisms and dissensions, each individual and class seeking to take advantage of the other. Selfishness still dominates man. Man's hand is still raised against his fellow-man. If it is not individual against individual, it is organization against organization, class against class. Labor is arrayed in fierce warfare against capital, and capital against labor. Labor is in antagonism also with itself. Public servants are still dishonest. The briber still plies his trade. The grafter is abroad in the land.
It is lamentable that these conditions should exist in this twentieth century. There must be a cause. There is a cause for every effect. Conditions can only be changed as the cause is changed. True reform is centered at the cause.
* * * * * *We live in the great present, the eternal now, the grandest epoch in all the ages. Our ideals must be great, to harmonize with the ; great present. We cannot live the full life by taking our standards from the past. We must feel the thrill of the present, to develop the best within us.

Let us remember that we may create, that we may build, that we may be a positive force in the world, that we may lift the burden from some struggling life, that we may radiate joy and kindness, gratitude and love from our lives, that we may leave the world a little brighter and mankind a little better than we found them.

Joseph Murphy in "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" suggests:

It must begin on a sound spiritual balance. It must be of the heart, and the heart is the chalice of love. You don't marry for position or for security. "

Divorce begins in the mind.

Nagging is a cry for attention but pushes the partner away. It also reflects a desire to make the partner conform to a certain way.

Discussing marital problems with family or friends who give the wrong advice.

Degrading or belittling the other in the eyes of anyone else is always a reflection of that persons thoughts and feelings.

Don't remake your partner.

But, of course adjustments are needed.

Pray together, stay together.

Maybe the goal of marriage should be as Nouk Sanchez and Tomas Vieira set for theirs.
To remove the blockages so that we may realize love in and all around us.
Real love.



Decide what's important. Loving now or holding on to the past.

A hug and a kiss from a dog are priceless. Dogs look into your soul.
