In the 1880’s metaphysicians were metaphysical practitioner healers of the “Mind Cure” movement based on the teachings of the bible. The “Father within that doeth all the work”.

New Age energy medicine of the 1980’s was the believe in a universal life force outside of you. Of course, that universal life force is God.
As David Van Bush wrote in 1925, if you have a headache take a pill, see a doctor, see a shrink or have someone lay their hands on you.
They are all good.
And that good is God.
