People put capital letters on "law of attraction" and started selling courses, books and lecturing on "Law of Attraction" in the early 1900's. It's still big business today as is New Age. However, New Age is not New Thought. LofA was not New Thought. In his 1939 book "Prosperity" Charles Fillmore used "law of attraction" as a phrase in it's historical context. I've studied ancient history for some 20 years. I've never read of anyone being killed to suppress knowledge of "LofA".
The "Secret" mentioned Charles Haanel running a course "The Master Key System". Now, based on ticket prices for the Titanic it would cost close to $30,000 today($1500 then). In other words the average Joe didn't take that course.
Titanic: Cost of a ticket (one way)
First Class (parlor suite) £870/$4,350 ($83,200 today)
First Class (berth) £30/$150 ($2975 today)
Second Class £12/$60 ($1200 today)
Third Class £3 to £8/$40 ($298 to $793 today)
Thomas Troward wrote about the abuse of the "Power of Suggestion" in his lectures. It's still happening. "Covert Hypnosis", "Subliminal messaging".
I heard an old Unity broadcast where Eric Butterworth called Emerson the father of New Thought. Conceptually maybe but he didn't understand the other piece and that was Myrtle Fillmore's healing. It was Quimby's work and demonstrations that lead to New Thought and contributed to her healing. As she said in her "Healing Letters" somethings they didn't discuss but she did explain when asked. Emerson, Troward and others offered theories. Quimby had offered proof.
"Busting Loose from the Money(Business) Game" by Robert Scheinfeld is rather unique in that it incorporates a lot of modern concepts into a spiritual context. While not New Thought strictly speaking it does remind you that, as Quimby stated in the 1800's, "All is Mind".
