Masters of Innovation, Pioneers of Change.

William Edwards Deming (1900 – 1993) was an American statistician, professor, author, lecturer, and consultant. He is perhaps best known for his work in Japan. There, from 1950 onward, he taught top management how to improve design (and thus service), product quality, testing and sales (the last through global markets) through various methods, including the application of statistical methods.

Deming made a significant contribution to Japan's later reputation for innovative high-quality products and its economic power. He is regarded as having had more impact upon Japanese manufacturing and business than any other individual not of Japanese heritage. Despite being considered something of a hero in Japan, he was only just beginning to win widespread recognition in the U.S. at the time of his death.
In the 1970s, Dr. Deming's philosophy was summarized by some of his Japanese proponents with the following 'a'-versus-'b' comparison:
(a) When people and organizations focus primarily on quality, defined by the following ratio,

quality tends to increase and costs fall over time.
(b) However, when people and organizations focus primarily on costs, costs tend to rise and quality declines over time.

Dr. W. Edwards Deming is known as the father of the Japanese post-war industrial revival and was regarded by many as the leading quality guru in the United States.

Walter Andrew Shewhart (pronounced like "shoe-heart", 1891 - 1967) was an American physicist, engineer and statistician, sometimes known as the father of statistical quality control.
W. Edwards Deming said of him:
As a statistician, he was, like so many of the rest of us, self-taught, on a good background of physics and mathematics.

PDCA (plan–do–check–act) is an iterative four-step management process typically used in business. It is also known as the Deming circle/cycle/wheel, Shewhart cycle, control circle/cycle, or plan–do–study–act (PDSA).
PDCA is a successive cycle which starts off small to test potential effects on processes, but then gradually leads to larger and more targeted change. Plan, Do, Check, Act are the four components of Work bench in Software testing.

PLAN Establish the objectives and processes necessary to deliver results in accordance with the expected output (the target or goals). By making the expected output the focus, it differs from other techniques in that the completeness and accuracy of the specification is also part of the improvement. DO Implement the new processes, often on a small scale if possible, to test possible effects. It is important to collect data for charting and analysis for the following "CHECK" step. CHECK Measure the new processes and compare the results (collected in "DO" above) against the expected results (targets or goals from the "PLAN") to ascertain any differences. Charting data can make this much easier to see trends in order to convert the collected data into information. Information is what you need for the next step "ACT". ACT Analyze the differences to determine their cause. Each will be part of either one or more of the P-D-C-A steps. Determine where to apply changes that will include improvement. When a pass through these four steps does not result in the need to improve, refine the scope to which PDCA is applied until there is a plan that involves improvement.

Joseph Moses Juran (1904 –2008) was a 20th century management consultant who is principally remembered as an evangelist for quality and quality management, writing several influential books on those subjects.

Kaoru Ishikawa (1915 - 1989) was a Japanese university professor and influential quality management innovator best known in North America for the Ishikawa or cause and effect diagram (also known as fishbone diagram) that is used in the analysis of industrial process.

Ishikawa diagrams (also called fishbone diagrams, cause-and-effect diagrams or Fishikawa) are causal diagrams that show the causes of a certain event -- created by Kaoru Ishikawa (1990). Common uses of the Ishikawa diagram are product design and quality defect prevention, to identify potential factors causing an overall effect. Each cause or reason for imperfection is a source of variation. Causes are usually grouped into major categories to identify these sources of variation.

The categories typically include:
People: Anyone involved with the process
Methods: How the process is performed and the specific requirements for doing it, such as policies, procedures, rules, regulations and laws
Machines: Any equipment, computers, tools etc. required to accomplish the job
Materials: Raw materials, parts, pens, paper, etc. used to produce the final product
Measurements: Data generated from the process that are used to evaluate its quality
Environment: The conditions, such as location, time, temperature, and culture in which the process operates

Genichi Taguchi (1924) is an engineer and statistician. From the 1950s onwards, Taguchi developed a methodology for applying statistics to improve the quality of manufactured goods. Taguchi methods have been controversial among some, but others have accepted many of the concepts introduced by him as valid extensions to the body of knowledge.

Kaizen , Japanese for "improvement" or "change for the better", refers to philosophy or practices that focus upon continuous improvement of processes in manufacturing, engineering, supporting business processes, and management. It has been applied in healthcare, psychotherapy, life-coaching, government, banking, and many other industries.

Our thoughts are shaping unmade spheres, And, like a blessing or a curse, They thunder down the formless years And ring throughout the universe.

DO not begin the new year by recounting to yourself or others all your losses and sorrows. Let the past go.

Should some good friend present you with material for a lovely garment, would you insult her by throwing it aside and describing the beautiful garments you had worn out in past times?
The new year has given you the fabric for fresh start in life, why dwell upon the events which have gone, the joys, blessings and advantages of the past!

Do not tell me it is too late to be successful or happy. Do not tell me you are sick or broken in spirit; the spirit cannot be sick or broken, because it is of God.

It is your mind which makes your body sick. Let the spirit assert itself and demand health and hope and happiness in this new year.
Forget the money you have lost, the mistakes you have made, the injuries you have received, the disappointments you have experienced.

Real sorrow, the sorrow which comes from the death of dear ones, or some great cross well borne, you need not forget. But think of these things as sent to enrich your nature, and to make you more human and sympathetic. You are missing them if you permit yourself instead to grow melancholy and irritable.

With that Ella Wheeler Wilcox, began her book “The Heart of New Thought” in 1902. Much of her optimistic strength came from her deep conviction about reincarnation and Theosophy. As Ella had a strong interest in mysticism, she became interested in the birth of the Rosicrucian movement in America. And became an officer of the Rosicrucian Research Society. Perhaps not fundamentally New Thought in content, it does share some interesting thoughts.
Interesting reading. 31 Chapters total, roughly 35-40 pages.

Other tidbits:
Do not tell me you are too old. Age is all imagination. Ignore years and they will ignore you.

Mental and spiritual power must be gained by degrees.

If is never too late in life to make a new start. No matter how small a beginning may be, it is so much begun for a new incarnation if it is cut off here by death.

Think of the value of each day of life, how much it means and what possibilities of happiness and usefulness it contains if well spent.

THE New Thought includes concentration of thought , in its teaching; and he who learns that important art is not liable to frequently forget small or large duties. It is he who scatters, instead of concentrates his mind powers, who keeps himself and others in a state of continual irritation by forgetting, mislaying, and losing, three petty vices which do much to mar domestic or business life.

We are all blind racers on the track of earth. The king, the millionaire, the statesman, the law-maker, the beggar, the laborer, the cripple, we are all in the dark. The only thing is to trust the hand of the Master, and do our best.

AVOID all strained and abstruse language, when conversing with people who may not have entered this realm of thought. Do not allow anyone to think of you as a lunatic, or a crank, unnecessarily. Of course there are people in the world who consider everyone a lunatic who holds an opinion differing from their own. But it can do you, or your philosophy, no good to thrust its most difficult phases before the minds of the unawakened, by vague and high flown expressions.

1000, 1910, 1919, 1988, 1997, 2012 and other things that went thump in the night.

The Apocrypha long predicted 1000 would be the year of Christ's earthly return and then destruction of the world. People went made pilgrimages, fled to safety and when nothing happened they went back home.

The Great Disappointment was reserved for the years 1843 and 1844, when Baptist preacher William Miller and his Millerite Movement wrongly prophesized three separate dates when Christ would return to earth and hellfire would consume us.

Halley's Comet in 1910 it passed so close that public warnings were issued by some of painfully suffocating global doom.

In 1919, American meteorologist Albert Porta announced that an upcoming conjunction of six planets would "cause a magnetic current that would pierce the sun, cause great explosions of flaming gas and eventually engulf the earth."

Edgar Whisenant had eighty-eight solid reasons why the Rapture would go down in 1988.

In 1997 pictures surfaced of Comet Halle-Bopp with a supposed secondary object lurking behind it. Some cults bought in.

Remember December 31, 1999 (aka Y2K). Nothing much ado about nothing.

What about June 6 2006 (The Number of the Beast). Although using numerology June 6 2004 was 6 6 6. Nothing happened.

May 21 2011. 6 PM came and went around the world, yet another prophecy failed to materialize. "The cold, hard reality is some believed, some gave away earthly belongings or drained their bank accounts, and it was false and they basically emptied out everything to follow a false teacher."

True Teacher vs False Teacher:

May 21st is probably a prelude of what to expect in 2012. People will start the Twitter's when nothing happens. People write books. Do they believe it? Is it true? In the 70's and 80's people wrote books as they do today. No one knew then that we'd be able to research things over the internet and connect the dots. No one knew then that we'd have the power of the internet, Facebook and Twitter to connect with other parts of the world. Nancy Tappe wrote of "Blue" people, "Purple" people and "Indigo" children in the 70's. Someone who writes a book channeled or from Angels on that topic does not legitimize it. Ascension , FofL and other books do not legitimize their respective topics. Use books only as a means to the end to find God as Emmet Fox wrote.

"The Indigo Evolution" was supposed to start a wave of Indigo across the planet a few years back. Luckily we get the story behind the story from Little Boy Blue:
http://www.dallasobserver.com/2006-03-09/news/little-boy-blue/full Suffices to say I wonder how the Twitters and Facebookers would deal with that today.

“We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

Interesting when we finally learn the source of quotes that people use but never give the proper credit for their source.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin SJ (1881 – 1955) was a French philosopher and Jesuit priest who trained as a paleontologist and geologist and took part in the discovery of both Piltdown Man[1] and Peking Man[2].

Teilhard conceived the idea of the Omega Point[3] and developed Vladimir Vernadsky's[4] concept of Noosphere[5]. Some of his ideas came into conflict with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, and several of his books were censured.

Teilhard's primary book, The Phenomenon of Man, set forth a sweeping account of the unfolding of the cosmos.

[1]
The "Piltdown Man" was a hoax in which bone fragments were presented as the fossilised remains of a previously unknown early human. These fragments consisted of parts of a skull and jawbone, said to have been collected in 1912 from a gravel pit at Piltdown, East Sussex, England.
The significance of the specimen remained the subject of controversy until it was exposed in 1953 as a forgery, consisting of the lower jawbone of an orangutan that had been deliberately combined with the skull of a fully developed modern human.
The Piltdown hoax is perhaps the most famous archeological hoax ever. It has been prominent for two reasons: the attention paid to the issue of human evolution, and the length of time (more than 40 years) that elapsed from its discovery to its full exposure as a forgery.

[2] Peking Man: A group of fossil specimens was discovered in 1923-27 during excavations at Zhoukoudian near Beijing, China.

[3] The Omega Point is a term coined by the French Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin to denote the state of the maximum organized complexity (complexity combined with centricity), towards which the universe is evolving.
Five attributes of the Omega Point
Teilhard de Chardin's The Phenomenon of Man states that the Omega Point must possess the following five attributes. It is:
1. Already existing. Only thus can the rise of the universe towards higher stages of consciousness be explained.
2. Personal – an intellectual being and not an abstract idea or a human collective. The increasing complexity of matter has not only led to higher forms of consciousness, but accordingly to more personalization, of which human beings are the highest attained form in the known universe. They are completely individualized, free centers of operation. It is in this way that man is said to be made in the image of God, who is the highest form of personality. Teilhard expressly stated that in the Omega Point, when the universe becomes One, human persons will not be suppressed, but super-personalized. Personality will be infinitely enriched. This is because the Omega Point unites creation, and the more it unites, the increasing complexity of the universe aids in higher levels of consciousness. Thus, as God creates, the universe evolves towards higher forms of complexity, consciousness, and finally with humans, personality, because God, who is drawing the universe towards Him, is a person.
3. Transcendent. The Omega Point cannot be the result of the universe's final complex stage of itself on consciousness. Instead, the Omega Point must exist even before the universe's evolution, because the Omega Point is responsible for the rise of the universe towards more complexity, consciousness and personality. Which essentially means that the Omega Point is outside the framework in which the universe rises, because it is by the attraction of the Omega Point that the universe evolves towards Him.
4. Autonomous. That is, free from the limitations of space (nonlocality) and time (atemporality).
5. Irreversible. That is attainable and imperative; it must happen and cannot be undone.

[4]Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky (Russian: 1863 –1945) was a Russian/Ukrainian and Soviet mineralogist and geochemist who is considered one of the founders of geochemistry, biogeochemistry, and of radiogeology. His ideas of noosphere were an important contribution to Russian cosmism. He also worked in Ukraine where he founded the National Academy of Science of Ukraine. He is most noted for his 1926 book The Biosphere in which he inadvertently worked to popularize Eduard Suess’ 1885 term biosphere, by hypothesizing that life is the geological force that shapes the earth. In 1943 he was awarded the Stalin Prize.

[5]
Noosphere according to the thought of Vladimir Vernadsky and Teilhard de Chardin, denotes the "sphere of human thought".
In the original theory of Vernadsky, the noosphere is the third in a succession of phases of development of the Earth, after the geosphere (inanimate matter) and the biosphere (biological life). Just as the emergence of life fundamentally transformed the geosphere, the emergence of human cognition fundamentally transforms the biosphere. In contrast to the conceptions of the Gaia theorists, or the promoters of cyberspace, Vernadsky's noosphere emerges at the point where humankind, through the mastery of nuclear processes, begins to create resources through the transmutation of elements. It is also currently being researched as part of the Princeton Global Consciousness Project.

Quackery

What the mind perceives to be true is true, but not necessarily the Truth.
Before the infomercials there were commercials. Before commercials on television or radio things were pretty much limited to magazines and newspapers. Remember those magazine ads as a child. From tonics to the cure-alls to magic elixirs. It gravitated to infomercials in the 70’s , 80’s and persists.
Advertising and utilizing the US postal service was common at the turn of the last century. And they were investigated. Often ordered to stop.
Examples:
• Dennis Dupuis (aka Rupert Wells, M.D.) of St. Louis.
• S. R. Chamlee who operated a mail-order "cancer cure" concern in St. Louis, Mo., under the name of "Dr. and Mrs. Chamlee & Co." and in Los Angeles, CaL, as "Dr. and Mrs. Chamley & Co.,"
• Dr. G. M. Curry, of Lebanon, Ohio,
• C. W. Mixer of Hastings, Mich., aka "Drs. Mixer"
• B. F. Bye of Indianapolis

Bye was interesting. He advertised and showed elaborate buildings far from the truth.
Dr. B. F. Bye's "down-town" office and laboratory, as represented in his booklets, surrounded by broad lawns and shade trees which existed in Dr. Bye's mind only. (From "Great American Fraud.")
Dr. B. F. Bye's office as it actually was at 301 North Illinois Street, Indianapolis. The brick building in the rear is a hotel, in no way connected with Dr. Bye's establishment. (From "Great American Fraud.")

And then there was Sidney A. Weltmer [1858-1930] the founder of the Weltmer Institute of Suggestive Therapeutics which was located in Nevada, Missouri at the corner of Austin and Ash Streets.

Founded in the 1887, the Weltmer Institute had a substantial financial impact on Nevada and the surrounding area. Railroads added additional cars to transport the thousands of patients who came to the Weltmer Institute for healing. Additionally, hundreds came to be trained in the Weltmer methods of healing at the Institute.

The Nevada post office was upgraded to a class one post office, and a new building was constructed to handle the massive volume of mail to and from the Institute.

Old postcards and ads refer to it by different names: "The Weltmer School of Magnetic Healing","The Weltmer Institute of Suggestive Therapeutics", "The Weltmer School of Healing", but usually just "The Weltmer Institute".

In 1900 a concerted attack was made to destroy the Weltmer Method of Healing. Persecutions and prosecutions followed one another in rapid succession until November 17, 1902, when the litigation had finally reached the United States Supreme Court, which sustained Professor Weltmer's work, and among other things declared his methods and practice to be "sound and practical" "legitimate and lawful and in no conflict with the laws of Congress.

This settled, for all time, the legal status of the Weltmer Method of Healing.

Raw Milk Saga continues...

http://balanceyourapple.com/2011/05/04/michael-schmidt-on-food-sovereignty/

This isn't anything new. It's been done in North America since the late 1800's according to some New Thought authors. In Ontario as well as other Provinces, States and Countries it's a legitimate concern for people to be able to make that choice. And the farmers are responsive enough to ensure the quality of their milk.

The Bovine: This blog is about rights issues around access to raw milk. http://thebovine.wordpress.com/

Where can I find real (raw) milk?
USA: http://www.realmilk.com/where1.html
Non USA http://www.realmilk.com/where-other.html

Canada has an advantage over the US. No growth hormones. Let's hope that continues and some agency doesn't try to slip one by the consumer.

I suppose from a spiritual point of view it takes someone in Government to say "What's right?" and act accordingly. No patronage, no pharmaceutical companies or agriculture companies waiving money. And a banking system that doesn't need bailing out.

We've just gone through a repeat of the "The Long Depression", lessons still not quite learned.

Until then we'll have the whistle blowers as a necessity and
the "milk police" to contend with.

Robert Collier was one of the few New Thought authors who through illness was directed to health products.

What's the harm.

You have a voice! You have a choice!

Monsanto Exposé: This film is a hard hitting look at Monsanto's history and origins in the chemical industry through its transformation into a biotech agricultural company and, particularly relevant for this website, its efforts to stamp out traditional seeds and replace them with patented genetically engineered seeds. It is a must see for anybody concerned about preserving our seed heritage and for anybody concerned about the general issue of food security. http://www.bcseeds.org/monsanto-review.php [BC Seeds is a project of FarmFolkCityFolk, supporting BC based seed growers and groups to increase the quantity and quality of locally grown seed.]
reviewers note: Through the wonderful technological inventions of computers and the internet the reader can check out all the assertions in this film and review for him/herself. Typing in a search phrase with Monsanto in it will usually produce more results than you care to look at.

In the same way that corporate control of seeds is a threat to our freedom corporate control of our computers, software, and the internet through closed source proprietary software is too. Consider the transition to free open source software in your fight for freedom.

The above shows how the Long Count of the Mayan calendar works.

The above shows the Gregorian dates and corresponding Mayan dates.
It simply rolls over roughly every 395 years.

So what was the hype about the Harmonic Convergence in 1987 about?
Any proposed planetary alignments in 2012 have nothing to do with the Mayan Calendar.

The Key to Everything

Norman Percy Grubb (1895 –1993) was a missionary statesman, writer and theological teacher.
During his time as the General Secretary of Worldwide Evangelization Crusade Grubb began writing. To begin with he produced tracts and magazines for the mission, and then in 1933 he published a biography of C.T. Studd[1]. After this came a string of other books, including his autobiography Once Caught, No Escape, and The Key to Everything. Other books penned by Grubb include Continuous Revival, Rees Howells' Intercessor, God Unlimited, Who Am I?, Spontaneous You, Law of Faith, Touching the Invisible and Yes I Am.[More- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Grubb ]

The Believer as a Container for God’s Presence in the World TodayWe make self our god, not God. We just naturally run our own lives.
And that's our whole trouble.
There isn't a single problem in humanity except our self-reactions: not one.
The Devil is no trouble. He was dealt with 2,000 years ago.
Your neighbour is not your trouble.
Circumstances are not your trouble.
The only trouble is your reaction.
Distorted self, self out of gear, is our problem.
Once we know how to handle the human self and put it back where it belongs, we've found the key to life.
You Simply Receive
You've got your key to everything.
Every problem becomes an opportunity.
Every tough spot becomes a chance to enjoy the luxury of seeing Him deliver us out of it.
And you welcome such spots.

Your Other SelfThere are two selves joined in one; and the other self is Christ.
That's why it's indivisible. That's why it's ridiculous to look around or above and try to find Christ.
You don't try to find yourself, do you? Wherever you go, you are there, aren't you?
However you feel about it, you can't escape your self.
And your other self is Christ; you can't escape Him either!

[1]Charles Thomas Studd(1860 – 1931), is often known as C. T. Studd.
Studd is remembered both as a cricketer and missionary. As a cricketer he played for England in the 1882 match won by Australia which was the origins of Ashes. As a British Protestant Christian missionary to China he was part of the Cambridge Seven, and later was responsible for setting up the Heart of Africa Mission which became the Worldwide Evangelisation Crusade (now WEC International).

He died died 16 July 1931, Ibambi, Belgian Congo.

The seven Cambridge students who became missionaries (known as the Cambridge Seven) to China were:
